It’s time for another Petefest!
This year it’ll be an intimate affair upstairs at the Camden Head on Camden High Street. Join us there on the 1st Feb from 7pm for a few drinks and the chance to catch up with a few old friends.
There are no bands booked (and no scheduled Dickens stories from Sir Simon Of Callow) this time around but we are planning to have an open mic set up so that anyone who wants to perform can do so. Let us know if you’d be up for that!
See you on the 1st.

Pete was mentioned in the Time Out blog in reference to an exhibition based on their Bench Marks column which had previously featured a piece on Pete and the Primrose Hill Bench. Thanks go to Stephen Emms for this.

This appeared in Time Out this week, and also on the journalist Stephen Emms’ blog, linked to above.
Mat’s eloquent text is here:
Mat Croft (bandmate, 27): ‘Pete was a big personality, a wild-haired, hilarious guy who made an impact wherever he went. We’d been close since our teens so we did a lot of growing up together playing music. A natural showman, Pete was explosive and unpredictable on stage – even at our last show, whilst he could barely stand, he still gave it his all. Everyone felt that the top of Primrose Hill was the perfect place as Pete spent so much time there, and since losing him it’s been a spot to sit and reflect. We put on a memorial concert and so many people donated money for the bench that Pete’s mum Alison was able to start a charity fund, The Peter Stevens Music Project, which provides music lessons at two Pupil Referral Units in Hackney. It’s the sort of work he intended to do when he recovered.’
It was really lovely to see so many people at the bench yesterday. I wonder how long the ribbons will survive? I’m now going to attempt to upload the snaps I took - it may go horribly wrong and I’ll have to call for Dom’s help - hope I don’t really mess up as he’s done such a brilliant job on this website.
All the best
Alison
PS Well, the photos didn’t attach - I’ll send them to Dom and hope he can sort it. Anyone fancy giving me a lesson on such matters?!!!
Dear everyone,I thought I would let you all know that Peter is now remembered on the bench right at the top of Primrose Hill. We went up there this week and its a wonderful spot on a clear sunny day. so please go and visit if you are in the area.
David, Anna, myself and some of Peter’s friends thought it would be nice to have a picnic there and all meet up again. So if you’re free on Sunday September 9th at around lunchtime bring some food and join us at the top of the hill. I thought it might be nice to tie a coloured ribbon on the bench whenever we visit so you can bring one of those along if you don’t think the idea too naff! Don’t feel you need to prioritise this in your busy diaries – we’ll be fine if it’s just six people!
If its pouring with rain the nearest pub is the Queens which is just opposite the park on the corner of Regents Park Road.
With the rest of the collection money I am waiting to have a meeting with someone from Hackney Music Services. We have been discussing setting up a project in Peter’s name in one of the borough’s schools. I shall keep you all posted on this after we’ve met.
Lots of love
Alison
